Q. Developing countries should be encouraged to implement high tariffs to grow their local industries. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

 

While I agree that an increased tariff is disadvantaged for local people, such as higher prices for consumers, less pressure to innovate and risk of trade retaliation, I personally believe that it brings more benefits. In this essay, I will explain why I believe this.

The first reason is protecting infant industries, for example, a start-up companies are hard to get into the early stages of the industry. In more detail, statistics show 132 companies were created last year, but only 30 of them survived in this year, if the increase tariffs, the price of foreign products will go up, and domestic products are given time and opportunity.
