I think people today tend to be less willing to help others. In the past, despite material deficiency, it was common for people to readily help one another and show consideration. In contrast, in today’s fast-paced society, competition and materialism are considered more important. These days people prioritize their own lives and they love themselves, but they don't seem very interested in helping others. Of course, I don't mean that all people are like that but social climate is shifting. Helping others such as volunteering or donations might be considered unnoticeable and not directly beneficial, though it will help your daily life brighter and more fulfilling.
