Can you think of some disadvantages of being monolingual?

One of disadvantages is inconvenient when we are traveling oversea countries.
For example, while we are traveling other countries, sometimes we need to ask something for others.
If we are monolinguals, we can't talk with people who live there each other.When I traveled in Japan, màny bus or taxi drivers didn't know English. So I had some difficulty finding a location. Surely also Korea is not different.
In other words, we can't talk with people who is visiting in my country. We can't help them and give them information.
