First, language is one of the major barrier in communication. It is the consequence of committing sin way back to Noah. God scattered language so that people couldn’t communicate to each other in order to stop building the tower of Babel. That is why people around the world spent so much time and effort in learning foreign languages. It is hard to deliver one’s thought in foreign language when they are not competent enough. Definitely, language is the foremost barriers of communication.

 Second, different cultures make it hard for people to communicate. It’s hard to understand each other when one doesn’t have any background knowledge and understanding of different culture. Food, gestures, reactions and way of living varies in every country. Even if one lives in the same country and speaks the same language, it would be quite hard to communicate when they have different set of values. People can misunderstand one’s intention and meaning depending on the cultures.

At last, I personally believe mind and perception is the most serious barrier of communication. I had encountered communicating with people around the world. I felt so hard when he/she whom I am talking to doesn’t want to communicate and ignores me even we both could speak English and understand each other’s culture very well as Asians. I also watched my grandmother who couldn’t speak any English, communicating with Filipino grandmother who was living next to our house. Filipino grandmother couldn’t speak neither Korean nor English. Even she was deaf and senile. I was so surprised that they could be friends and communicate well. So I realized that true communication happens through heart.
