As a consultant, I found good communication skills highly essential. My job requires me to communicate with clients and foreign consultants. Therefore, I learned that the level of communication needed differs based on the stakeholders. It is essential to be concise and empathetic when dealing with clients. However, it is vital to have cultural awareness when discussing the topic with foreign consultants. Regardless of the stakeholders, the secret to better communication has constant exposure. There is an adage that practices make perfects. One of the reasons that I chose the client service career path was to change my introverted characteristic. It was initially challenging because I had to keep selling company products and my skillsets to different companies. I head to do some cold-callings, in-person meetings, and information sessions as part of my work. By exposing myself to such an environment, I successfully changed my personality where I voluntarily did catch-up calls.
