In Korea, wildfires are mainly caused by cigarette butts discarded by hikers in the fall or by farmers working nearby while accidentally burning agricultural by-products.
Once a wildfire occurs, it causes enormous damage and is very difficult to extinguish because it occurs in rugged mountainous terrain.
Therefore, the Korean government is establishing and implementing measures to minimize damage caused by wildfires that recur every year.
First, all mountains in the country have been declared no-smoking zones and fines are imposed for violations.
next, drones, whose performance has recently improved, are being introduced to effectively monitor wildfires and put out them quickly.
In addition, related organizations, centered on the fire department, are jointly conducting wild fire extinguishing training.
And the budget was significantly increased to supply helicopters and airplanes for wildfire suppression and to equip the government with a variety of cutting-edge equipment.
