I like people who lived dramatic lives during turbulent times.
Korea went through many changes from the late 1800s to the early 1900s.
At that time, Korea was under Japanese colonial rule, many Koreans fought for independence, and the North and South were divided and fought each other.
I like novels based on people who lived during that time. and I like one of the main characters in those novels.
He was studying in Japan at the time, and was drafted into the Japanese army and sent to the front line against China. Japan was invading China. He escaped from the Japanese army and joined the Chinese army. China was helping Korea gain independence, and he fought against the Japanese army. then Korea gained independence and was divided into South and North.
He joined the North Korean army and participated in the South- North War that broke out in 1950 and died there.
Ironically, he was from South Korea, not North Korea.
His life was a series of hardships, but I long for such a dramatic life.
