A ceasefire is a temporary halt to conflict based on mutual agreement, but it often leaves the door open for war to break out again. As you pointed out, achieving lasting peace requires addressing the root causes of conflict, such as disputes over land rights. In many cases, the parties directly involved are unable to resolve these long-standing issues on their own. Therefore, major powers and neighboring countries must play a constructive role in encouraging compromise and them meet halfway. Prolonging war benefits no one. But unfortunately, great powers sometimes exploit conflicts or create divisions to serve their own interests. This is the behavior the global community—including the United Nations—must work together to prevent. We have to have it in mind that selfish actions and attitudes in international relations do nothing to help solve the urgent global challenges such as climate change and the resulting economic and social damage.
