Recently South Korea government introduced a universal cash handout scheme worth 10.3 trillion won, disbursed via vouchers. All citizens will initially receive a minimum of 150,000 won. Many countries have tried giving out cash to stimulate the spending. Most of the time, this is the short-term measure because this policy brings grave financial burden. Accordingly, I believe it would be better for governments to cut taxes. When taxes are cut, people have more income at their disposal. This trend will boost demand, production and economic growth. While South Korea government attempt to boost spending through free money, they are now trying to increase the tax. South Korean government recently announced to increase the corporate tax and capital gain tax to increase taxable income. Giving out stimulus cash can benefit people, but this measure is short term and can have a small impact on economy. Therefore, the government had to amend their fiscal policy to stimulate the economy.
