I think the cover of a book is important because, it can be a factor to attract people to read it for several reasons.

Let’s suppose there are exactly same 3 books but with out the cover.

In this case, the cover of a book can be the important cause so to the person who tried to buy it.

Or even if people didn’t chose the book to buy, the cover can also be the crucial factor of selecting books.

They don’t have any information about book to chose, the cover which represents the title well and show attractive design can make people to look at it.

It means there might be a dissatisfaction with the cover, nevertheless they will buy the books.
